In-Space Systems

Spaceline Technologies is developing technologies and systems that enable more demanding space missions.

Targeted Performance

This technology development includes a cryogenic propellant orbital transfer stage with a higher performance than what is currently available for small spacecraft.

A high performance kick stage has multiple applications for earth orbit and interplanetary trajectories. Using this technology shortens time of flight or allows the use of smaller or reusable launch vehicles to save significant launch element cost. Current in-space propulsion stages have significantly less specific impulse or multiple orders of magnitude lower thrust propulsion that does not allow for impulsive maneuvers. The Spaceline design results in a combination of high performance, high impulse, and pre-flight operability.

Design Reference Mission ΔV [m/s] Payload Mass (kg)
GEO Direct 4600 18
Low Lunar Orbit 4600 39
Ballistic Lunar Transfer 3300 82
C3 = 30 km2/s2 4520 21

Spaceline is designing the cryogenic transfer stage for missions requiring a large delta-v combined with short transit times from the impulsive maneuvers of chemical propulsion.

This stage incorporates unique design features in the cryogenic storage system:
  • Compatible with any launch pad.
  • Propellants loaded before encapsulation.
  • Maximum ops independence from the launch provider.
